As part of the Cronkite News “Hooked” project, a documentary about the opioid crisis in Arizona, Cronkite invited Redirect Health cofounder and medical director, Janice Johnston, M.D., to weigh in on Gov. Doug Ducey’s letter urging that Arizona physicians receive more education on drug addiction. Dr. Johnston commended the governor’s efforts to take a stand on this issue, and also shared Redirect Health’s approach to educating patients about their treatment options. For example, providers take time to explain that opioids are really just heroin derivatives, which helps patients better understand the dangers of misusing the drugs.
